Getting Started

Do I have to do anything to set up Spotlights?

Yes, there’s a simple one-time setup for each platform you’d like to use:

Meta: Authorize ShopMy to run partnership ads through your Meta account.

TikTok: Ensure your TikTok is connected to ShopMy. Then, authorize the partnership directly from the Spotlights settings.

Once you’ve completed the setup for a platform, you’re all set.

How do I connect my Meta partnership permissions?

Please review the brief tutorial video below for step-by-step instructions on how to connect your Meta partnership permissions and enable Spotlights partnerships.

As a reminder, you should only need to complete this setup once. However, if you run into any issues connecting your account or enabling permissions, please follow along with the tutorial video for troubleshooting guidance.

How do I connect TikTok for Spotlights?

  1. Open ShopMy and go to the Spotlights tab.

  2. Find the TikTok option:

    • If you haven't connected any platform to Spotlights yet, a pop-up will ask you to connect one.

    • If Meta is already connected to Spotlights, go to your Spotlights settings on desktop and select Connected Platforms from the top menu.

  3. From either place, choose the TikTok option. A QR code will appear.

  4. Scan it with your phone's camera and accept ShopMy's request in the TikTok app.

  5. Back on ShopMy, check that TikTok shows as connected.

Which accounts do I need connected to be eligible for Spotlights?

You need at least one platform connected to your ShopMy account and to Spotlights.

The accounts you have connected to your ShopMy account allow brands to see your mentions and choose the content they'd like to Spotlight.

The accounts you have connected to Spotlights determine where your content is eligible to run as an ad. These connections are needed for the ad to run under your handle.

If you need assistance with connecting your Instagram or TikTok account, please refer to these tutorial videos.

Do I need to interact with Meta Business Suite every time a brand sends a Spotlight request?

No. The Meta authorization is a one-time setup. ShopMy sends a DM, you approve it, return to ShopMy, and verify the connection. After that, there's no per-request interaction with Meta Business Suite required.

What does this look like in Meta? Is it different than the average IG connection in settings?

When you get your first Spotlight request , you’ll be walked through an onboarding flow that will help you set you the Meta connection. This is what the flow will walk you through:

How to accept Meta Partnership request

  • Go to your IG settings and open Business tools & controls (could also be titled Creator tools & controls depending on IG version)

  • Go to Partnership Ads (sometimes titled Branded Content Ads)

  • Select Ad Partners → Pending Requests.

  • Tap the brand request and choose Approve

What type of content is eligible for Spotlights?

Any content where you mention a brand, organically or through a paid Opportunity, is eligible for Spotlights.

All historical mentions are eligible, not just those posted since the launch of Spotlights.

Content is eligible to be amplified on any platform you have connected to Spotlights, regardless of where it was originally posted. For example, if you connect both TikTok and Meta to Spotlights, a post from TikTok could be amplified on Meta and vice versa. This gives you more opportunities to earn and reach new audiences across platforms.

Why can’t I view the Spotlights Module?

You will have access to Spotlights when you receive your first request from a brand.

How long do creators have to accept the offer?

Creators have 7 days to accept a Spotlights request.

Can brands bundle multiple pieces of my content into a single Spotlight?

No. Each Spotlight is tied to one specific piece of content. This is intentional — it gives both you and the brand clear visibility into exactly what's running, how it's performing, and what to scale or stop.

What content formats are supported?

Currently, Spotlights support Meta Partnership Ads across Instagram and Facebook, and TikTok Spark Ads.

What should I be hoping for as a creator participating in Spotlights? What’s an ideal outcome?

You can view the case study from our Alpha testing [HERE].

Does my TikTok need to be a Business account?

No. ShopMy doesn't require a TikTok Business account to connect.

Is there a follower minimum?

No. Brands choose from content that mentions them. What matters is that you've tagged the brand and have your ShopMy link on the post.
