Your legal name helps us verify that payouts go to the right person. It's used for payment verification only, and it's never shown publicly or shared with brands.
What we use it for
When you set up your payment details or receive a payout, we check that the name on your ShopMy account matches the name on your payment account. If anything looks off, we work with a secure third-party verification partner to confirm your identity before money moves.
That check protects you from:
- Someone else claiming your earnings
- Payouts getting rejected or delayed by your bank
- Account takeover attempts at the payout stage
💡 Tip: You don't need to upload anything. We're only asking for your first and last name as they appear on your government-issued ID.
Where you'll enter it
- When you join: you'll add your legal first and last name on the waitlist form
- After you join: your legal name lives in Account Settings under Legal Name
Your public-facing name and handle are separate. Your legal name doesn't change how you appear on your shop, in search, or to brands.
How your information is protected
- Stored securely, and only accessible to the ShopMy team members who handle payments
- Never displayed publicly
- Never shared with brands
- Never sold or used for marketing
How to update your legal name
Legal name changes are handled by our team so your payment details stay accurate and secure.
Email creatorsupport@shopmy.us with your updated legal name and we'll take care of it.
Common questions
Do I have to use my legal name? I go by something else.
For this field, yes, since it needs to match your payment account. Your display name is what creators, brands, and shoppers see, and you can set that to whatever you like.
Will brands see my legal name?
No. Brands only ever see your public-facing name.
