Getting Started with Travel & Hospitality
Getting Started with Travel & Hospitality
Whether you're sharing a favorite hotel, planning a destination guide, or recommending an experience from your latest trip, ShopMy makes it easy to turn your travel recommendations into commissionable links.
What can you link?
You can share a variety of travel and hospitality recommendations, including:
Hotels & Resorts: Boutique properties, luxury resorts, and major hotel groups like Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton.
Vacation Rentals: Properties available through partners like Vrbo and Marriott Homes & Villas.
Booking Platforms: Travel booking sites like Expedia and Booking.com.
Experiences & Activities: Day passes, ski passes, tours, and activities through partners like ResortPass, Epic Pass, and Viator.
Transportation: Car rentals and select airlines, including Hertz and Virgin Atlantic.
How much can you earn?
Commission rates vary depending on the travel partner. Hotels that partner directly with ShopMy typically offer 5–15% commission, while brands available through affiliate networks may offer different rates.
Because hotel stays and travel experiences are often higher-value purchases, a single booking can generate meaningful commission.
You can view the available commission rate when creating your link.
How to Link Hotels & Travel Experiences
How to Link Hotels & Travel Experiences
Creating a travel link works just like linking your favorite products on ShopMy.
You can use your usual linking tools, including + Link on desktop, the ShopMy app, Snapshop, or the Safari extension.
How to create a travel link
Find the property or experience. Visit the official website of the hotel, resort, or travel experience you would like to recommend.
Copy and paste the URL into ShopMy. Use your preferred linking tool to generate a link.
Check the commission rate. If the property or experience is eligible for commission, the available rate will appear.
No rate? Link through an online travel agency. If the hotel is not available directly on ShopMy, search for the same property on Expedia or Booking.com and paste that property page URL into ShopMy instead. This lets you earn commission on the booking even when the hotel does not have its own program.
Share your link. Add it to your ShopMy shop, social content, newsletter, or wherever you typically share recommendations.
Tips for linking hotels
Link directly to the property: Use the hotel’s main property page rather than a search results page or a booking page with specific dates selected. This gives your followers more flexibility when planning their stay.
Use the brand’s official website for hotel groups: For properties that belong to a larger hotel group, such as Hilton, link from the group’s official website. Third-party or individual property sites may not be eligible for commission.
Start direct, then try Expedia or Booking.com: Always check whether the hotel is commissionable directly first. If it is not, link the same property through Expedia or Booking.com.
Check for restricted programs: Some hotel partners offer commissionable links only to invited talent.
What if a hotel isn't commissionable?
Not every property has an active commissionable program. If a rate does not appear when you create your link, find the property on Expedia or Booking.com and link it from there. If you would like to see the hotel join ShopMy directly, you can also submit a brand request.
Understanding Travel Commission
Understanding Travel Commission
Travel partners on ShopMy fall into two categories: Brand Partners and Commissionable Partners.
Brand Partners
These are hotels, resorts, and travel brands that partner directly with ShopMy.
They may offer:
Commission rates typically ranging from 5–15%.
Extended cookie windows of up to 180 days.
Opportunities for hosted stays and on-property experiences.
Direct collaboration opportunities with hospitality brands.
Examples include San Ysidro Ranch, Proper Hotels, AutoCamp, ResortPass, and Epic Pass.
Commissionable Partners
These are travel brands available through ShopMy's affiliate network relationships rather than direct partnerships.
They may include major hotel groups, booking platforms, vacation rentals, and experience providers such as Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Expedia, Vrbo, and Viator.
Commission rates and cookie windows are determined by each brand's affiliate program and may vary.
How do cookie windows work for travel?
A cookie window is the amount of time after someone clicks your link during which an eligible booking can be attributed to you.
Travel cookie windows vary by partner:
Brand Partners: May offer extended windows of up to 180 days.
Commissionable Partners: Often have shorter windows of approximately 7–30 days, depending on the program.
Because travelers often research destinations and accommodations well before booking, we recommend sharing links in places your audience can easily revisit.
When do you get paid?
Travel commissions follow ShopMy's pending earnings process, although some bookings may take longer to become eligible for payout.
Depending on the travel partner, a booking may remain pending until the guest completes their stay and the brand approves the transaction.
Once the transaction is approved, the partner has paid ShopMy, and the commission is locked, it becomes eligible for payout under ShopMy's regular payout process.
Cancelled or refunded bookings are not eligible for commission.
Travel FAQs
Travel FAQs
Why didn't my hotel booking track?
Travel bookings can be more complex than traditional product purchases. A booking may not track for several reasons:
The traveler completed the booking through another website, travel agent, credit card portal, or directly with the hotel.
Another affiliate link was clicked before the booking was completed.
The booking was completed on a different device or browser.
The booking occurred after the cookie window expired.
The hotel requires bookings through a specific website.
The booking was cancelled or refunded.
Some programs may also exclude bookings made using loyalty points, rewards, or certain member-only rates.
Can I earn commission on flights?
Yes, select airlines and booking platforms offer commissionable flight bookings. However, flight commissions are typically lower than hotel and experience commissions, and some programs offer 0% on flights.
We recommend prioritizing accommodations and experiences when building travel content.
Can I work directly with hotels through ShopMy?
Yes! Hospitality Brand Partners may offer Opportunities and Collaborations that include:
Hosted hotel stays.
Dining or beverage credits.
Spa and wellness experiences.
On-property activities.
Invitations to special events.
These partnerships may include specific content deliverables or other requirements.
Hotels often use ShopMy Chat to coordinate dates, guest details, and partnership logistics.
Keep in mind that travel expenses to reach the property may not be included, so be sure to review each Opportunity before accepting.
Can I earn commission in addition to a hosted stay?
Yes. Creators can earn commission from eligible bookings made through their links in addition to receiving partnership benefits, subject to the terms of the collaboration.
Can travel advisors use ShopMy?
Absolutely! Travel advisors can use ShopMy as an additional way to monetize their recommendations.
ShopMy is designed to complement an advisor's existing business rather than replace traditional agency bookings.
For example, advisors can share commissionable hotel recommendations through social media, newsletters, and destination guides with followers who prefer to book independently.
Travel Content Ideas & Best Practices
Travel Content Ideas & Best Practices
Travel recommendations often have a longer consideration period than traditional product purchases. Someone might discover a hotel today but wait weeks or months before booking.
That's why we recommend creating content that remains accessible long after it's originally shared.
Content ideas to try
Destination Guides: Create collections like "My Guide to Aspen" or "Where to Stay in NYC" featuring favorite hotels, restaurants, and experiences.
Weekend Itineraries: Share a curated itinerary for a destination, including where to stay, what to do, and what to pack.
Hotel Reviews & Room Tours: Walk your audience through your favorite properties, highlighting rooms, amenities, restaurants, and experiences.
Trip Recaps: Share highlights from a recent trip, including your accommodations, activities, and favorite purchases.
Seasonal Travel Guides: Curate recommendations for ski season, summer getaways, spring break, or holiday travel.
Staycations & Day Trips: Highlight local experiences like pool days, spa visits, and resort day passes.
Best practices for sharing travel links
Make your recommendations easy to find. Save travel content to Instagram Story Highlights, destination-specific ShopMy collections, blogs, or newsletters.
Organize by destination. Group hotels, restaurants, and experiences together so your audience can easily plan an entire trip.
Add personal context. Explain why you recommend a property, what you loved about your experience, or who you think would enjoy it most.
Reshare seasonally. Bring relevant guides back to your audience ahead of popular travel periods.
Pair travel with product recommendations. Include your packing essentials, vacation outfits, beauty favorites, and accessories alongside your travel recommendations.
